Stevie Skaats

Fundraising for Steven S's Freedom Concepts Discovery Series

Stevie sees himself as a fast character in a video game. He wants so badly to go fast like Sonic. Among his friends, he is always the first to say, "Let's play tag!" or "You can't catch me!" even though his run is a slow walk that he can only sustain for about 10 steps before dropping to the floor. Having a bike would enable him to feel the sensation of wind blowing through his hair as he propels himself and rides alongside his family and friends. Futhermore, it would help him maintain fitness.

Wow! We can't say thank you enough to fully express our gratitude! Stevie's adaptive bike is fully funded thanks to our family, friends, neighbors, and even a few friends we haven't met yet! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Stevie was so excited when we told him this morning! He can't wait to go riding! We are so blessed! Thank you!

Thank you, everyone, for donating, voting, and sharing! I'm getting an adaptive bike thanks to you!

As I head to bed this evening, I am in awe of the outpouring of support for this mission of getting an adaptive bike for Stevie! How can we already be only $120 from our fundraising goal?!? Thank you so very much to everyone who donated. I am so excited for the new chapter this will start in Stevie's life! He wants to go fast! (I just hope he will give Mommy a little time to oil up the joints!) He said he wants to ride his bike everyday, and in the summer he wants to ride his bike to get all sweaty and then go jump in Joy and Gumps' pool! (Joy and Gumps are his grandparents, and they live nextdoor!) Thank you also to everyone who has voted! I know we had a ton of votes over the last 3 days and especially today. I bow my head to those on the leaderboard; I can't imagine how many votes they have! Stevie loved all the personal messages from people who said they voted! Leaderboard or not; he has felt the love!

This kid is ready to go fast!

Wow! I woke up this morning, looked at Stevie's fundraising page, and I cried happy tears when I saw we were just shy of $2,000 and 7 votes short of the minimum to be in the drawing! I may just be an emotional mommy, but this bike will truly be life-changing for Stevie, and it feels like it could really happen! I'd love to not only use it recreationally, but I see us using it in many places where we would otherwise use his wheelchair. This way he would have the opportunity to get exercise when he would otherwise just be sitting. This afternoon, we topped $2,000 and Stevie's Aunt A was so excited to cast the 50th vote! Woohoo!! Hopefully, we can keep the votes coming in (although we won't see the count now that we met the minimum) so we can get on the leaderboard and start climbing our way up! Even more awesome would be if we can keep climbing to meet our fundraising goal so we don't have to worry about votes, and we can let someone else win via votes. Thank you, everyone, for your support. Please keep sharing Stevie's page!

I hope I can ride my very own bike someday! I bet it will be even more fun than riding a bug!
