Altynai Morel

Fundraising for Altynai M's Freedom Concepts Expedition Handcycle

Those of you who know Altynai, know that she LOVES TO MOVE! She loves vehicles and anything with wheels! The days of towing Altynai behind my bike are long gone! We have gone from the trailer (pictured above) to a tag-a-long bike attached to our own. In the past 2-3 years we have tried a gifted adaptive tricycle. We have tried taking pedals off Sam's old bike to make a kind of balance bike, we have tried training wheels. We have put Altynai on our bikes and just walked with her. We have tried so many ways to get her wheels, but nothing has worked quite right. In the summer, if you drive by our house, you can frequently see Altynai outside on the driveway pushing a bike, trying to figure out how she can get on or use it.
The main problem we have found is that Altynai cannot move her right hip/leg in the typical way. This is because her right hip is permanently displaced. Because of this, she cannot pedal with her legs. She also needs three wheels to help with balance and seatbelts for safety and control. The Great Bike Give Away is a chance for her to get all that in a Bike! The Bike that we are hoping to win or even get a discount for is listed below. You can see it is a handcycle operated tricycle.
Here's how it works! Vote for Altynai, and if she is the one with the most votes, she can win this bike. Also if she get's 50+ votes, she will be entered in a drawing to win. Finally, you can donate as a fundraiser and if she does not win either of those above ways, this organization will help us get this bike a reduced cost (it retails at $6000!)

It would just be so amazing to be able to get Altynai some new wheels that she can actually ride!

My daughter loves to move, she is always taking all our bikes out of the garage and trying to push them around the driveway and yard. However, because of her hip dysplasia, scoliosis and vertical talis in feet, cognitive impairment, and autism it is impossible for her to use a normal bike. It is not only a balance issue, it is also the fact that she does not readily bend her right leg and so can not pedal with her feet. She really needs a way to hand cycle.
